ITHACA, N.Y. -- The baseball team (7-5, 1-1 Empire 8) defeated St. John Fisher 3-1 in game two of Saturday's doubleheader. St. John Fisher (7-3, 1-1 Empire 8) won the first contest 5-4 in 10 innings. Junior catcher Rob Raux (Ilion/Frankfort) went 3-for-5 on the day with three RBIs and one run scored.
In game one, junior outfielder
Jeremy Peters (Thomas R. Proctor) went 3-for-3 with one RBI, one run scored and stole his team-leading seventh base.
Raux went 1-for-2 with one run scored and a team-high two RBIs and sophomore second baseman
Kurt Bednarcyk (Fairport/Fairport) scored two runs and stole his two bases.
In the third,
Raux singled to left center to score
Bednarcyk and
Peters. After stealing second and taking third on a wild pitch,
Raux was driven home when junior outfielder
Eric Ferguson (Columbia/East Greenbush) singled to center field.
St. John Fisher rallied in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 lead. However, the Bombers tied the game in the bottom half when Peters singled to score Bednarcyk.
Senior

(Clinton/Clinton) pitched six innings striking out three batters. Sophomore Brian Gardner
(Fairport/Fairport) pitched four innings, giving up one run and striking out two batters. He is now 1-1.
In game two, junior
Nick Sottung (Pulaski/Pulaski) pitched a complete game two-hitter, striking out a season-high nine batters. He improved his recorded to 3-1 and is only two wins away from becoming the 13th Bomber in school history to record 20 career wins.
Junior shortstop
Josh Smith (Pulaski/Richland) doubled in the fifth and was driven home on a sacrifice fly by junior second baseman
Todd Czerno (Columbia/Brainard). In the sixth another Smith double drove in
Gardner to give the Bombers a two-run cushion at 3-1.
Raux single through the right side in the first to score Bednarcyk and give Ithaca the early lead. Raux went 2-for-3 in the second game.
The two teams will compete against each other in a doubleheader Sunday at Ithaca. Game time is noon.
